The way in

There are two ways into the Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club web site: through the Home Page (orange) or through WeatherCentral (blue). Both give you access to all pages, the choice is of which page you wish to see first.

Normally, you would access the site through the Home Page. However, if you want to check out the weather first, choose WeatherCentral.

Full and basic versions of the Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club site are available. Whilst the full version includes navigation frames (tell me more about frames) to make surfing easier, the basic version consists of single pages. Again both versions contain exactly the same content.

Users of older browsers may need to use the basic version. Also, users with low resolution screens (below 800x600) may prefer the basic version as more space is then available for viewing the information pages.

Finding your way around

The HSSC web site is divided into nine main sections, click on one of the large buttons across the bottom of the screen to access the section of your choice. As your mouse pointer passes over each button, section information will appear to guide you. Once a button is clicked, a list of links to relevant pages will then appear on the left-hand side of the screen.

If you are using the basic site version, you will need to access pages via the site map. A link to the site map is located at the bottom of every page. At the site map, select which page you would like to view simply by clicking on the name.

(Note that users of the basic version may switch to the full version at any time by clicking on the "Reload Frameset" link which is found at the bottom of every page. Do not use this link if you are using an older browser. Using the full version with older browsing software will not damage your computer, the only result is that pages will not display correctly.)

Frames and Java

The Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club web site administration endeavours to adhere to good web authoring practice, providing for users with newer and older browsing software alike. Users of newer software (versions 4.0 and above) will wish to benefit from the convenience navigation frames (meaning that links to different pages stay visible whilst you browse), whilst users of older software will require a simple site which does not generate errors.

Two versions of the HSSC web site are available, a full version, which includes navigation frames and Java code for visual enhancement, and a basic version, which does not include these features but will display properly on older browsers. Both versions do, however, contain exactly the same information, pictures, etc.

If you have an older browser, e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 or below, or Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or below, you should select the basic version.

You may then navigate all HSSC web pages by clicking on the introductory picture to obtain the site map, then by clicking on the page of your choice. A link back to the site map is available at the bottom of every page (or you can use the BACK button on your browser).

If you have a newer browser, e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or above, or Netscape Communicator version 4.0 or above, you may select the full version.

You will then have full access to the advanced features of the HSSC web site, including context sensitive navigation information and one-click access to many pages.

If you do not know the version of your browser, try the full version, if error messages appear, or if the navigation buttons do not expand as your mouse pointer passes over them, go back and use the basic version.
